Call for Applications for one FOREIGN PROFESSOR OF ENGLISH


1. POSITION
Foreign Professor of English (Gaikokujin kyoushi)
2. DEPARTMENT
Faculty of Education, Department of English
3. QUALIFICATIONS
A native-speaker of English with an M.A. in one of the following areas:
Linguistics, English Education, English and/or American Literature. (A
candidate with qualifications which can be deemed at least the equivalent of
the above will also be considered).
4. TEACHING/ADVISING ASSIGNMENTS
English Composition, English Conversation, English Pronunciation (theory
and practice), English as a general education requirement, graduation thesis
guidance. (Changes in teaching assignments are possible with each academic
year.)
5. TEACHING LOAD
Eight 90-minute classes per week. (16 hours)
6. PERIOD OF EMPLOYMENT
Two years, from April 1, 2000 to March 31, 2002. However, it is possible
to renew the position, the maximum total of years being six.
7. SALARY
Based on the Mombusho scale and the candidate's years of experience, and
decided by the president of Shizuoka University.
8. HOUSING
The university will provide accomodations. Utilities, however, will be the
responsibility of the foreign professor.
9. DOCUMENTS TO BE SUBMITTED
(1) a resume (CV)
(2) a list of publications
(3) copies of three articles, or books, and a 200-word English abstract of each
(4) for those candidates currently residing in Japan, proof of current
resident status and period of residence (copies of appropriate passport
pages)
(5) a photograph
Note: There will be an interview for finalists. Also, the successful
candidate will be required to submit a copy of a recent physical
examination.
